'The Rockford Files' Reboot on Hold (Again)
However, it may not quite be the death knell for 'The Rockford Files,' as it could be revisited next season if new NBC programming chief Bob Greenblatt is interested. But, given it's not the first time the reboot has been in jeopardy, this seems unlikely. We reported back in May how NBC execs had balked at the pilot episode starring Dermot Mulroney as Jim Rockford. In recent years networks in search of hits have revisited many classic shows, with varying degrees of success: For every 'Battlestar Galactica' there's a 'Bionic Woman.' But reinventing 'The Rockford Files' was never going to be easy. Starring James Garner as affable private eye Jim Rockford, the series aired on NBC from 1974 to 1980 and is still shown in syndication.
