The surprise winner of the 2011 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, a classic 1970s and â80s soft rocker and one of the last voices of popular musicâs iconic heyday will highlight the 15th season of Lehigh Universityâs Zoellner Arts Center.
Todd Rundgren, who had seven Top 40 hits from 1970-83, including âHello Itâs Me,â âCan We Still Be Friends?â and âBang the Drum All Day,â will kick off the series on Sept. 10.
Tickets for individual shows go on sale at noon Aug. 4 at www.zoellnerartscenter.org or 610-758-2787. Season subscriptions are available now.
Rundgren, a Philadelphia native, also scored hit records with his bands Nazz and Utopia. He has been a noted producer and engineer for other artists, and most recently fronted the New Cars, a reformed version of the 1980s band the Cars, before its full reunion this spring. Tickets are $24-$38.
Singer and bass player Esperanza Spalding, a surprise winner as Best New Artist, beating out Justin Bieber, Drake and Mumford & Sons and becoming the first jazz artist to win the award, will play Oct. 1with the Chamber Music Society. Tickets are $20 and $32.
Tony Bennett, the storied singer of standards and popular music who has won 15 Grammy Awards and had albums reach platinum status 44 years apart, was previously announced as headliner for Zoellnerâs Gala 2011, the primary fundraiser for Lehigh Universityâs Zoellner Arts Center, on Oct. 22.
Tickets are being sold now for the concert and a dessert reception at $200 for preferred seating, $150 select seating, $100 standard seating and $60 for students. The remaining tickets will go on sale with the rest of the 2011-12 season.
