Vick wrote the book with two co-authors, Charles Chandler and Brett Honeycutt. I had the pleasure of working with Chandler and Honeycutt when all three of us were at The Charlotte Observer, and am sure their journalistic talents, coupled with Vick’s story make for one heck of a book. I’ve seen some excerpts where Vick says he lied to Falcons owner Arthur Blank about his involvement in the dogfighting ring. I just reached out to Chandler to get a little preview of what’s coming in the book. He’s not allowed to talk about specific details until the book is released, but he was happy to speak in some general terms about Vick’s time in Atlanta. “Michael looks back at his Atlanta days and realizes he didn’t apply himself like he is now in Philadelphia,’’ Chandler said. “He relied just on athletic ability, not film study and staying late. He expounds on that in a lot of detail and reveals what was going on behind the scenes in his life at the time. There was a lot going on that wasn’t savory and wasn’t good for his career there and the public really didn’t know much about what was going on.’’ “Without Tony Dungy, there’s no telling where Michael would be,’’ Chandler said. “In the book, you will see in a lot of detail what the discussion in Leavenworth, Kan., was like and how it built a strong mentoring relationship. Tony went to the entire NFL and said he believed in Michael and that he was a changed man and that obviously carried a lot of weigh with the league.
