Publishing options are main topic at Tuesday's Wordfest

Editor and publisher John Morgan will give an overview of current publishing options available to authors during the Wordfest gathering from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at The Brits.

Morgan’s talk will include traditional print publishing, print-on-demand services and the rapidly growing world of e-books.

Morgan founded Morgan Online Media earlier this year, an e-publishing company that is seeking to edit, publish, market and sell e-books by new and undiscovered authors. He has worked for several large media corporations, including three years as senior editor of the financial trade journal Money Management Executive.

Also that evening, Kim Le will be reading from her book "100 Snapshots of Struggle, Hope and Survival," which captures the experiences of Southeast Asian refugees who left their homelands and started new lives in the West.

Le has worked with various social service agencies for over 30 years. She served as the executive director of New Americans Social and Cultural Assistance, an organization that provides resettlement services for Slavic and Southeast Asian refugees and immigrants in Southwest Washington.

Linda Eddleston will read poems that she and her daughter wrote and published in a booklet entitled "Poetry A Through Z." Eddleston, a retired teacher, will be discussing why people write poetry and providing handouts with different styles of poetry.

WordFest is a gathering of readers and writers who meet on the first Tuesday of each month at The Brits, 1427 Commerce Ave. Following the evening presenters, there is an open mic time where the audience can read their own material.

Many years ago, we began singing a hymn to this tune in the church where I served as worship leader. It quickly became a favorite.

The words were authored by Canadian hymn-writer, Margaret Clarkson . In my opinion, it is one of the few great modern hymns that captures the nature of our God who is both transcendent and imminent, who created all things by the word of his power, and who also guides history and our lives by his personal, providential love. Through these words, we crown history’s Maker the Lord of each day.

This hymn is another excellent choice for ordinary time worship, both personal and corporate, for it puts our daily life in perspective, setting it within God’s story of the ages.

Dixon, Illinois is known as Ronald Reagan's home town and it is celebrating the centennial of his birth this year. My dad grew up in Dixon, and I lived there for a time and visited my family there often over the years. I can still see the fireworks over the river.
