790 The Sports Animal tonite at the House of Blues for the best in ...

I am bringing the passion Glenn, and hope to make it by House of Blues around 6 or so. But I’ll have to be podcasting the show as I’m off to a previously scheduled field trip with my son’s middle school.

My take on issues:

1. Nothing gets those Seattlebots testy like giving them the very slightest criticism. Judging from their blog presence since last Thursday, they are wound tight! My response: Get real grass and then we’ll call you a real team.

2. Speaking of real grass, I can hardly conceal my disappointment that MLS Cup will be played on the fake stuff. This is a total joke and can easily make a travesty of the game. I’ve got my fingers crossed, but I’m pissed.

3. Bringing the passion. The thing I took away from the last two weeks (including Dom Kinnear’s interview on your show last week) is that this team is playing with focus, confidence and passion. Brian Mullan’s clearance off the line, and Onstad’s “message delivery” to Montero are the things that playoff runs are made of. This team is beginning to look like the one that went on that great run after the penalty double save against Colorado in May. I have no doubt whatsoever that they will leave it all on the field on Sunday.

4. And the more the better. I like what Seattle has brought to he league this year. I like Ljungberg and relish the chance to see him again this weekend (and crush him like a grape). I like any MLS squad routinely generating 25-35K for every game. But I am sick and tired of those fans acting like they are God’s gift soccer. I have seen enough green scarves, enough Euro-mimicking and enough of this Green til I die business. They are nothing. They have won nothing (USO Cup? Give me a break. DCU was so fixture congested then that NYRB could have beaten them.) I want the Orange to bury them this weekend. The only green I expect to see out there is the green, green (real) grass of home. An Orange Wave is going to put a stop to all this Seattle craziness, their inaugural season story can come to a merciful end and we can all get on with the very real business of a three-game winning streak en rouite to a third MLS Cup.

So those Seattle guys can compute all that in their Microsoft-addled brains and like their software regularly does, crash and burn.

One other thing, and this is a small thing but there nonetheless. Sounders FC. This is America. Whether you like it or not, it’s called soccer here and not football. So it should be Sounders SC.
