FINDLAY, Ohio (AP) - The only earthen levee along the troublesome Blanchard River in the northwest Ohio city of Findlay is no longer recognized as viable for flood control.
The Courier newspaper reports the Federal Emergency Management Agency has decertified the levee.
Findlay flood plain manager Todd Richard says it would cost too much time and money to get the levee up to standards.
The government's decision means some adjoining land becomes part of the official flood plain.
The city has used that property to hold piles of mulch made from leaves and yard debris. City officials also granted permission last year to residents who want to build a BMX bike trail there.
Jim Rhodes with the public works department says the bikers don't mind the flood threat.
