Our Town: Local history and book shared tomorrow
The Chesterfield Historical Society is sponsoring a Local History at the Library program on the first Thursday of July, August and September. Kicking it off will be Alan Naldrett with "The History of Chesterfield Township" based on the book of the same title, which debuted on the Fourth of July, 2011. Tomorrow's event is free and will be held at the Chesterfield Township Library, 50560 Patricia at 6:30 p.m. The book contains over 200 vintage photos and plenty of information about the local area with author Naldrett donating the proceeds to the Chesterfield Historical Society. It is available online at Amazon, and at Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores. Our Town salutes Alan Naldrett for sharing his work and making history meaningful. Remember history is made everyday and when an effort has been made to record it and later research it, we all are enriched. Future Thursday programs will be "History of St. Joseph Hospital" presented by Mary Hortos on Aug. 4 and "Money in Macomb County" on Sept. 1 by Karl Mark Pall. FUNDRAISER AUCTION FOR Jackson Moore on Friday: Little 4-year-old Jackson has a rare brainstem tumor, DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) and is seriously ill. The fundraiser is titled "Quarter Mania" and will be held at Premier Lanes, 33151 23 Mile in Chesterfield. Bring a roll of quarters. Cost is $3 a paddle. Fast fun, food and drink specials; the contact person is Lane Leah, (810) 841-4831. THRILLING TRIATHLON SATURDAY: Local and out-of-town athletes will inundate Our Town as swimmers, bikers and runners. The first event begins at 7 a.m. Over 260 participants will test their ability and stamina in the lake, on a bike and with their feet. Imagine swimming a half-mile out and back in Anchor Bay from City Park, then biking an 11-mile route throughout the area, followed with a three-mile run. Well, it happens right in Our Town and the excellent New Baltimore Recreation Center staff is in charge. They would love some help. Make an effort to be a volunteer by calling the Recreation Center (the beginning and starting point) at (586) 725-0291. Or, be along the route to offer water and cheer for them. The Recreation Center leadership Mike Hoffard and Carlos Aprea and staff are to be commended for continuing to put Our Town on the map with this exciting event.
