Sheila's Out Shopping: The end of my rope

Espadrilles are the shoe of summer, and this is the season to rope ’em in.

The original shoe had a canvas upper with a sole of twisted rope, but this year the fashion conscious will be able to find flats, high and low wedges and heels in canvas, leather, satin and nubuck in solids and patterns from luxury designers to affordable styles. The only problem you will have is deciding which style and color is best to get you through the hazy, lazy days.

Kohl’s is where you will find Simply Vera by Vera Wang gladiator espadrilles with a high wedge in dark brown leather ($44.99, on sale) and the SO Henrietta heeled coral T-strap espadrilles ($18.97, on sale). If you like florals, Sonoma has a canvas, sling back wedge with light blue flowers ($24.99, on sale), or if flowers aren’t your thing they also come in black.

Talbots has a faux, snake print T-strap high wedge ($129) that will give a breezy look to your work wardrobe and an uplift to your weekend clothes. They also have an ankle strap beige wedge with a large flower ($59.99, on sale) that will brighten any outfit you pair it with.

Cole Haan has leather ballet flats in a variety of vibrant colors that will quickly become your go-to shoe for daytime, playtime and evening ($98). If you want a higher heel they have a nubuck ankle strap wedge in gray or beige ($178).

Banana Republic is where I found a thick canvas sling back canvas, high wedge in magenta, orange or olive ($79). Your hardest decision would be which color to get. All three will give your summer clothing a lift.

Target has the original espadrille style in a floral or red stripe by Mossimo ($14.99). These shoes will be so comfortable you will think you are wearing your bedroom slippers.

Payless is where you can find a Liberty-type floral print flat with a peep toe ($22.99) and a slip-on wedge with a shirred vamp ($16.99). Both are by American Eagle.

If you want have that school marm look get Juicy Couture’s Jill laced wedge ($160). These are the shoes you can wear through the fall and still think it is summer.

Espadrilles are the shoe that will have you all tied up all summer.

Ike got a snack he really enjoyed on an airline and searched for it when he got home.

The verdict: On a trip to New York the airline served popped corn chips, and I have been looking for it locally. I finally found PopCorners at Wynn’s Market and am now enjoying the three varieties (butter, sea salt and white cheddar $2.59 each) on the ground.
