Angara hints at football training program with Spain
THE Azkals may soon get to train with Spain's La Furia Roja if a football exchange program proposed by Senator Edgardo Angara pushes through.
Angara said he brought up a possible cross-border training program when he met with Spanish officials during the 9th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day last June 30.

"Spain has one of the best football teams in the world. It would be an incomparable opportunity for the Azkals and other aspiring Filipino football players to train with them," he said. Spain's national team took the World Cup in 2010.
Angara said a delegation of football coaches from the Centro de Estudios, Desarollo e Investigación del Fútbol Andaluz (Cedifa) came to the Philippines to promote football in Baler, Aurora and in Bago, Negros Occidental.
He said Francisco Lopez, head of the Cedifa, found Filipino football players were "fast learners (with) an innate talent for the sport."
Angara said a football exchange program could spot and train Filipino football talent early.
"Players will also be given the opportunity to train under world-class coaches, such as those from Real Madrid, and in world-class facilities which will be constructed in several key locations in the country," he said.
Aside from pushing closer ties with Spanish football clubs, Angara has also filed bills to create a Philippine Sports University that will specialize in teaching and training athletes and coaches.
He has also sponsored a bill to create a Philippine Sports High School that will help Filipino students excel in academics as well as sports.
"The Philippine athletic system still needs a lot of work in terms of national sports infrastructure and policies," he said.
On Sunday, the national football team, Azkals, won 4-0 against the Sri Lanka Brave Reds. The win brought the Azkals into the second round of World Cup qualifying matches, an unprecedented feat in Philippine football.
The team is expected to play against Kuwait's Al-Azraq (The Blue) on July 23.

SMURF Village in Spain! - Spanish Teaching
Film. To promote the film, they painted the village blue!!! Sony hired painters who used over 1,000 gallons of paint (4,000 liters) to paint Júzcar's traditionally white facades blue so that they look like smurf houses. They even got many of the locals to dress up as smurfs!
Add this attraction to the beautiful Moorish architecture, famous sherry wine, traditional flamenco and beautiful sunny beaches and you have yet another great reason to visit the Costa del Sol (Sun Coast) region of Spain this summer.
You need to hurry and come to Spain this summer to see the village because in September Sony will repaint the village white.
The movie premieres on July 29th to US audiences.
