Last night I was out with some friends at __________ on Forest Drive. The house was slam-packed the likes of which I had never seen before, as well it should be for the College World Series. I would like to first state that the service and food at ____________ is great, but last night a PMS-ing manager completely crapped on the would-be celebration. First, she called last call during the seventh inning, which was messed up but forgivable if not for what happened after the game. Literally right after the third out in the ninth, as the players are running out of the dugout to celebrate, the manager comes around and turns off all the TVs and tells everyone to pay their tabs and “Get the f#!k out.”  I will not be going back. A pissed-off Clemson fan. This is a rave for Jimmy John’s in Five Points. It looks like most of the other restaurants decided to close at their normal hours, despite USC playing the College World Series. What the f#!k? The hibachi place is closed?  Village Idiot not taking anybody else?  Jimmy John’s was open and it hit the spot with this drunk bastard. Rock on, Jimmy John’s! OK, so I want to rant about a subject that’s very near and dear to most Columbians hearts: Gamecock football. Every year when we play our foes of the Upstate, the Klempson Taters, guess what the winner is awarded? The freaking Hardee’s Trophy! This is a ridiculous trophy for such a heated and historic rivalry. A new proposal, I will keep it short: The commission of two 10-foot tall bronze palmetto trees, one located at each stadium. At the top, an area where a to-scale crescent from the state flag can be affixed. Each year, Carolina and Clemson play for that crescent. Join the movement! Read, sign and share the petition at change.org, keyword search “Carolina Clemson.” Nearly 500 signatures so far! To hell with the Hardee’s Trophy! Let’s rid our great rivalry of this disgrace! Thanks Rant & Rave, I hope you publish this and become a part of this grassroots movement. One of the reasons that the film Casablanca remains popular after 70 years is Claude Rains’ classic line, “I’m shocked — shocked — to find gambling going on in this establishment,” stated as he is being handed money he won from gambling in the establishment.

The Things I Love!: Free Spelling Games for Kids at Big IQ Kids!

As a homeschooling mom sometimes I get worried that my kids are behind in certain things.  {As I am sure any mom does, not just homeschooling moms}  This doesn’t happen to often because I really try hard not to compare them to anyone, but there are days when my daughter misses a math problem, or spells something really wrong that I start to think to myself, “do other kids have these same problems with spelling or math?”  The other day I had this thought and then later that day I went to write something and didn’t remember how to spell a word.  I had to laugh because really, should I stress that my kid isn’t spelling things perfectly when her own mother struggles with spelling! :)   No, they will eventually get it.  But I do want my kids to be better spellers than I, so I do work with them on a daily basis with their spelling. 

I have searched around for a fun spelling program and was very excited when I found Big IQ Kids .  It is a great website where I can enter my kids spelling words into the program and there are spelling games and spelling test for free.  They also have recommended spelling words for each grade level.  You can sign up for the premium program and pay a little bit per month or year or you can just do it for free.  I chose to go with the free option.  You can register for free and it will save your lists.  My kids really enjoyed the games and also the new idea of typing on the computer.
