The Jeep® Thing - Mopar Jeep's of Moab

It became a thing. To be more precise: a Jeep thing. Not too many years ago, a few maverick Jeep employees who called themselves the Mopar Underground began. They built some cool concept vehicles and loaded 'em on a single transport truck headed for Moab Easter Jeep Safari, where they were unveiled to a small group of hand-selected media. These concepts have been wild to a degree.A Wrangler-based pickup, no lift JK sports 40-inch tires, stripped of basic Wrangler Rubicon with all the gadgets, a military theme J8 nicknamed "Sarge" and other sharpened our appetites and gave hope that genuine off road enthusiasts still rocked the halls of the headquarters of Jeep.

While the guys at Metro Moab wheels snot out of their creations. What a concept: a concept indeed wheeling. The media embraced the vehicles but also embraced the fact that they were introduced to them not to a car show surrounded by smoke and mirrors, but on the track to off-road enthusiasts surrounded Mecca. In addition, we were told, "Here are the keys ... See what you think of 'em. "Wild. Praise and positive rewards followed.

And like everything that responds successfully, the production has grown in scope and complexity. The guys at Metro are now joined by Team Mopar Performance, which create their own vehicles using many products you can pick up at your local dealer. And where previously only used a handful of passionate fans Jeep were present, costumes are flying high now in town to give presentations and congratulatory back-slapping.Costumes whose average day back in Michigan deals more with facts and figures that the rocks and mud.

But here's the thing: While the minutes are there, they go on hikes, blasting the dunes, climbing ledges and catch big air, all with a huge ear to ear smile. In short, they learn the Jeep thing. They catch the virus. They understand why a Grand Cherokee needs to keep a real low range or why it's a good idea to do a pick-up Wrangler. They get it. And the future of the brand is good news in part because their exposure to our world. So our hats are the team from the Metro, the gang of Mopar and the Jeep brand in general. Here for the next crop of concepts and brighter things ahead.

In addition to his day job as head of Ram and Jeep design, Mark Allen leads the Mopar Underground. He is the Captain Kirk of their business, the Milli Vanilli to their and the guy with the overall vision (with the hard work of his teammates underground) is responsible for the likes of the van JT Heritage Wrangler J8 Sarge, Lower Forty, and one of our favorites to date: pork chop.Allen is a true enthusiast with a penchant toward the wacky obviously not easy. We like to think that he fit right in JP magazine, not that he had to take pay cut. Perhaps for this reason that we usually get his vision so clearly. Such is the case with pork chop.
