Vancouver home burglarized during Fourth of July fireworks show
A Vancouver couple's home was burglarized while they attended a Fourth of July fireworks show.
Cassandra Gan's engagement ring, pairs of her underwear, an X-Box hard drive and dozens of video games were stolen while she and her husband were watching the Ft. Vancouver fireworks display Monday night.
"I think, because of the Fourth of July being so loud, you could break a window and they wouldn't hear anything," she said.
When the couple returned to their apartment on Kauffman Avenue, they saw their bedroom window, which normally had a box fan sitting in it, open. The screen had been pulled down and the fan hung from it's power cord, still plugged into the wall.
"I feel vulnerable, I really do," said Cassandra Gan, who is eight months pregnant. "Just trying to have a family and in a month have a kid. And that's the type of environment the kid's going to be around. It's very unnerving."
Cassandra Gan said she almost never took the ring off since her husband proposed last July. The ring had grown tight due to her pregnancy and warm weather, so she left it in a ring box the day of the burglary.
The Gans hope the ring's distinctive shape and size will help lead to its recovery.
A Vancouver Police spokesperson said the burglary is a good example of why it's important to lock all doors and windows when you leave your home.
