Military communities in Europe marking July 4 with festivities, fireworks
Americans across Europe have lots of options when it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July. From car shows and carnival rides to fun runs and fireworks, U.S. military communities will be celebrating in traditional July Fourth fashion. Here are some of the many activities on tap over the holiday weekend:
BeneluxSHAPE/Chievres: Saturday starting at noon at the GB shopping area on SHAPE. Live entertainment, food booths, carnival rides. Fireworks at 11 p.m. behind the FINA gas station. Open to all U.S. and NATO ID cardholders.
The 2011 Tri-Border American Fest, Saturday, starting at noon on the Brunssum sports fields. Food booths, rides, a magician, Xbox tournament, petting zoo, falconry show and a fireworks display. Live music includes The Jeremy Graham Band, a country/southern rock group, at 9 p.m. Open to U.S. and NATO ID cardholders and authorized guests. No coolers or picnic baskets.
U.S. Army Garrison Brussels: Saturday from 3-11 p.m. at the Sterrebeek Annex. Bingo, World War II re-enactors, classic cars, a water slide, bouncy castles, food and fireworks.
GermanyU.S. Army Garrison Ansbach: Sunday, Hangar 2, The Jeremy Graham Band at 7 p.m.; Monday starting at 4 p.m. at Katterbach’s Hangar 2. Food, games and music. Fireworks at 10 p.m.
U.S. Army Garrison Bamberg: Monday, Pendleton Field from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Car show featuring the Classic American Car Club, test the horsepower of your vehicle on the Dyno, carnival rides, fire artist Xelo, golf tournament at Whispering Pines Golf Club, 5k fun run/walk. Entertainment by The Jeremy Graham Band.
U.S. Army Garrison Garmisch: Friday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Breitenau softball field. Barbecue, children’s activities, games, speed softball tournament, a strongman competition; Saturday, Mueller Fitness Center 5k family fun, starting at the Garmisch Elementary-Middle School.
U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwöhr: Monday from 6-11 p.m. at the parade field of the main post. Disc jockey, jumping castles, face-painting, games, magic show, food and beverages, the band Pop nach 8. Fireworks at 10:30 p.m.
U.S. Army Garrison Hohenfels: Monday from 3-11:30 p.m. at the Festplatz. Fireworks, live music, food, bouncers and other activities for the kids. Open to all U.S. ID cardholders.

Those taking part were St Mary's, Great Heath, Lakenheath, Tuddenham, Beck Row, West Row, Elveden and Forest primary schools. Riverside Middle School provided sports leaders and Mildenhall College of Technology performed an opening dance.
