Sheer joy on Judy's face spreads hole-in-one glee to all

It had started out like most other weekend golf games. The four of us, Judy and I and best friends Cathy and Jim, were happy we had finally managed to get in a round when it wasn't raining. The mowers had actually been able to cut the rough for what seemed to be the first time in ages because of our monsoon-like spring.

Now, I can't say it was exactly like most of our matches because we had been out the night before and could have had more zip in our step, And perhaps the internal pounding in our ears from blood pressure might have been a little more muted when we bent over to putt.

All this was to end at the fifth hole of Hickory Ridge Golf and Country Club. Not for me, though. No, as usual I missed the par-three green.

However, when my wife went to her tee block and swung her six iron, it was as though everything else stood still as we watched the ball's flight. It created a smooth arc toward the green, on a perfect trajectory toward the flag. I think I said something like "great line," which you do when the ball is anywhere near the line of the flag. Our friend Cathy was urging it on, shouting for it to go the hole.

Golf balls can't hear you. If they could, most would be red not white for the names they are called on many occasions. But on that day, the ball seemed to hear Cathy. It landed in front of the green, bounced onto the green, rolled to the flag -- and disappeared.

You have all seen the credit card ad where you can see and do many things, but the ad calls the ultimate one "priceless." That was the sheer joy on Judy's face, her arms raised, holding the club aloft. It took her a second to realize what had just happened. She had shot a hole in one.

Some friends golfing on a nearby fairway heard the commotion, and yelled, "Who got it?" They knew. The sounds of celebrations were easy to interpret.

What are the odds of that happening? One company, SCA Promotions, which sells insurance to tournament promoters for hole-in-one prizes, says the odds are 10,000 to 15,000 to 1 from about 150 yards.

A strange custom has grown around getting a hole-in-one in golf. The golfer buys his or her friends drinks as part of the celebration. You would think they would buy the golfer drinks. It is considered almost bad luck at some clubs to score an "ace" during league play because of the damage it can do to your wallet. Many have a fund set aside just to cover that.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to see my wife congratulated every time we go to the golf course. The second question is always, "Does George have any?" The answer is "none" and I don't anticipate that changing.

I recently recieved my customized staff mid-size bag and absolutely love it. My question is: does Titleist offer a dual strap carry system like your carry bags for the staff mid-size and if so, how do I go about getting one for my bag?
